GH Spoilers: Sonny Is Ready For Divorce — What Comes Next For Nina?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) had filed for divorce, and Nina Reeves Corinthos (Cynthia Watros) is still in shock that he wants to formally part ways with her.

For the last few weeks, it has ripped Nina’s heart out to steer clear of Sonny and give him space to think, but she took that as a sign that they were moving in the right direction. If he’s thinking about things, she assumed that must have meant he’s not sure he is done with his marriage.

Since the inverse is true, Nina is scrambling to come to terms with the reality of the road ahead, and she will struggle putting one foot in front of the other when it appears her intention not to indulge Sonny’s request for a quickie divorce is met with hostility rather than reconsideration.

General Hospital Spoilers — Valentin Cassadine’s Master Plan

Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) has been keen on helping Nina nurse her own heart back to full health ever since Sonny banished her from their penthouse home.

When Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) ousted her as the Editor in Chief of Crimson Magazine, Valentin rode in on his white horse with a plan to get her career back on track.

Funding a new magazine to compete with Crimson was just the ticket — until it wasn’t. As Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) revealed she was a more formidable opponent than Nina expected.

Valentin helped her raise the stakes by buying The Invader and making Nina the new publisher of the former news rag.

But what comes next with Valentin’s plan, and is it all in Nina’s best interest — or might some of this be all about Valentin in the end?

If he wants his ex back, he has a funny way of showing it — suggesting that she drag her feet and refuse to give Sonny a divorce.

GH Spoilers – Hint Sonny Corinthos Bites Back

Sonny is likely expecting compliance from Nina. After all, they were barely married for a few months by the time he learned of her betrayal — which really began long before they ever got hitched.

But if Nina takes Valentin’s allegedly sage advice, she’ll be hoping that giving Sonny more time to simmer on his feelings for her might change his mind.

What does she have to lose by forcing him to stay married to her longer than he wants to be? If she underestimates the answer to that question, she really must not know the former Sonny we all know, pre-Nixon Falls.

When Sonny files for divorce, he means it, and he’ll make certain that Nina is painfully aware of how much he wants to break ties with her — even if he has to break their marital bond himself.

Nina took some comfort in knowing her bestie, Ava Jerome (Maura West), was still around to eavesdrop and gauge how well Sonny was coping with their split.

But now that Ava serves little purpose for her, it’s not going to sit as comfortably with Nina that she’s still shacked up with her soon-to-be ex.

She may not have any good reason to feel that way right now, but she will when all is said and done and Ava has found herself back in Sonny’s bed.
