GH Spoilers: Sonny Corinthos Almost Recast – Maurice Bernard’s Emergency Hiatus

General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) is having a health crisis at the moment, and it’s going to get worse in coming weeks.

Months ago, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) ordered Sonny’s pharmacies to alter Sonny’s bi-polar medication so that he was only receiving about a quarter of his prescribed dosage.

Ava Jerome (Maura West) discovered the truth weeks ago but didn’t speak up. And now Ava has blackmailed the pharmacies into complete replacing Sonny’s medication with a placebo.

General Hospital Spoilers – Sonny Corinthos Is Spiraling!

Ava’s goal is to cause Sonny to have a public meltdown so that she can win full custody of their daughter Avery Jerome-Corinthos (Ava & Grace Scarola). But even as Sonny is spiraling out of control, his portrayer recently had an issue of his own.

During Bernard’s State of Mind podcast, he acknowledged that his recent bout with anxiety led to him taking an emergency hiatus from General Hospital.

He acknowledged that he hadn’t noticed the triggers since he hadn’t been keeping up with therapy the way he should.

GH Spoilers – Maurice Bernard Experienced Terrible Anxiety!

Bernard’s wife and son left on a trip to Europe, leaving him without the two people who could most likely talk him through his anxiety.

Then he began to have trouble sleeping which led him to seek help from many different psychiatrists, one of whom Bernard claimed was rude.

Luckily, his friends rallied around him but it took some time. Bernard wasn’t able to work during this time, but Executive Producer Frank Valentini was able to give him two weeks off. Once his wife and son went home, Bernard briefly went a facility to get help.

General Hospital – Maurice Bernard Is Back To Work

If he had to miss work any longer, the show would have been forced to temporarily recast. Luckily, that didn’t happen and Sonny’s absence wasn’t even noticeable.

But even when he returned to work, it was still difficult but once he had tearful rant and released his emotions which led to a turning point.

He’s doing better now, but Bernard wanted to thank Frank Valentini for his compassion and support. Stay tuned for what’s next for Sonny!
