Their marriage has soared to new heights in the last year-plus since it began on such rocky ground. Now, they’re both looking ahead in their careers, but neither really has solid insight about the direction they’ll go in.
Things are only looking up for Curtis. With Congressman Larry McConkey (Sam McMurray) dying sooner than expected, Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) could be catapulted into office in Washington, D.C. much sooner than he thought he would be.
If that’s the case, he’s going to need someone else to step up as CEO at Aurora Media. Portia may stand behind Curtis in taking on such a big role and being in the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean her own actions will support his new and very public position.
It wasn’t long ago that Portia was appointed as Co-Chief of Staff of GH. It was a huge honor at the time, even though she knew it would mean longer days at the hospital and less time interacting with patients, trading off for more time interacting with staff.
Still, being a part of the duo that ruled the roost came with its perks. She should know a bit about being at the top of the ranks now, and that’s why it makes such little sense that she would recklessly make decisions that tarnish Curtis’ new role at Aurora.
Portia just can’t seem to keep logic separate from her feelings. No matter how much she tells herself this situation with Heather Webber (Alley Mills) is out of her hands, she wants to take control of it in any way that she can.
When Heather’s lab work came into her possession, that may have been the first straw. We’re still anxiously awaiting those test results much like Heather is. But the closer Heather gets to seeking any kind of freedom, the more instilled with fear Portia will become.
This could cause her to make some other pretty risky moves in the name of keeping her daughter safe — even if it destroys her family in the process.
If Portia did anything to alter Heather’s lab results, that would absolutely be a criminal act. She wouldn’t just stand to lose her job and the respect of her peers, but her freedom.
How ironic at a time when Heather may regain her own. Will Curtis stand by her if it means his career and Aurora will suffer because of the stain Portia’s behavior leaves on his attachment to her? It sounds like the way Portia chooses to deal with Heather could tank her whole life.
In this make it or break situation, we have to wonder just how far she will go — and whether it’ll be worth potentially losing her husband. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to see how this plays out.
