As long as Sonny has a lock on Diane Miller’s (Carolyn Hennesy) legal representation, she’s out of the pool of attorneys for Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to choose from.
Going at it alone might be acceptable to Alexis, but Sonny wants legal support in her corner, and why shouldn’t he? He’s the real criminal, and Alexis is being charged with a murder that he committed.
Marty seemed cool, calm, and collected offering his help directly to Sonny, but we have a sneaking suspicion that him going out on a limb for Alexis on Sonny’s dime could pull him deeper into a world of criminal defense than he ever imagined himself being. Will Marty be able to keep his hands clean the same way Diane has?
It’s not just that Marty is going to show up outside of Alexis’ cell claiming he’s her new attorney. It’s that she may not want to loop an attorney into the drama she has created for herself when she knows the lies she has to navigate around to pull this off.
Likewise, she knows any attorney worth their salt is going to advise her in the best way possible to secure her freedom — which she’s not interested in if it comes at the expense of Kristina Corinthos Davis’ (Kate Mansi).
But it’s also that Alexis isn’t in the business of taking handouts from Sonny, and she may begin to wonder why he’s bent on helping her out to this extent. Could it be because he knows she didn’t do it? Could that be because he knows who did?
Marty has been out of sight and out of mind for months. Lucy Coe’s (Lynn Herring) deceitful romp with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) may have driven him out of town without a word to anyone about where he was going, but Sonny sure knew how to track him down when he needed him. Furthermore, Marty didn’t hesitate to ask how high when Sonny insisted he jump.
Is this Marty’s new path forward in his career after sidelining himself to heal his broken heart — working for the mob?
Let’s not forget that Sonny and Marty have a mildly sordid past. After all, Marty’s brother is Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). Yet Marty is willing even to represent Sonny. Perhaps money is all that matters to this guy, but he used to keep boundaries a bit better in his life.
Of course, he’s also not Cyrus’ biggest fan, but we have to wonder why Sonny would be so willing to trust his once-arch enemy’s brother. Is this a rocky road that Marty may wander down and find himself entrenched in Sonny’s dark world that he can’t easily escape from?
Will he learn the truth about what Sonny did to his brother? Will he care? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers just ahead.
