GH Spoilers: John J. York Shares Important Information Following Cancer Battle

General Hospital (GH) spoilers revel that John J York returned over the summer after battling cancer for months. However, now that York has been able to return to work, he has a big announcement about his next endeavor.

General Hospital Spoilers – John J York’s Miracle

General Hospital spoilers reveal that on a recent episode of Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Andersen’s (Damian Spinelli) podcast, Daily Drama, York discussed his current storyline with his co-workers from the set, since his return to the show.

York also discussed his recent health issues, including finding his miracle bone marrow match to help fight two different blood cancers.

York spoke emotionally as he talked, “In September is when I found out that I had an exact match for my stem cells, which was an unbelievable, emotional phone call. To hear that we found an exact match, it’s just unbelievable.” York also detailed his plans to meet the man he matched with saying, “Hopefully, coming up on my anniversary – which is November 17th – that’s when I’m hoping to meet him.”

GH Spoilers – John J York Has A New Project In Mind

York prompts Andersen to share some breaking news no that he is back to work and has other plans now that he is well. York says, “This is kind of a new piece of information for everybody. “I’m going to be working with NMDP – National Marrow Donor Program.”

York stated, “the NMDP as a “support system, information system, help system” for people going through similar illnesses as him. “I’m just starting that and I’ll be making announcements on X (formerly known as Twitter) and hopefully some PSAs (Public Service Announcements).”

At the end of September, York posted on his X account, a photo taken from an NMDP Unite event in Los Angeles, CA. York posted a photo in his NMDP t-shirts and posed with some people he met there including, donors and recipients, as well as those currently awaiting matches.

General Hospital Spoilers – Other Stars Have Done Similar Things

General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) has done something similar with NAMI where he is an ambassador for the organization. Benard has also been issues awards over the years as well. This is from 2001 where Benard received NAMI’s Lionel Aldridge Award.

“Maurice Benard, star of ABC’s General Hospital will receive NAMI’s Lionel Aldridge Award for courage, leadership and service to others with mental illness. He is one of the first Hollywood and Hispanic celebrities to talk publicly about his experience with bipolar disorder (manic-depression), encouraging both consumers and family members never to give up hope for recovery. The award honors the memory of Lionel Aldridge, former defensive end of the Green Bay Packers, who played on the championship 1967 Super Bowl team, but struggled for years with schizophrenia and homelessness.”
