With news making the rounds that Monaco is slated to be dropped from GH after more than two decades as a consistent character, fans are wondering what her storyline will be on the lead-up to her way out.
While many are theorizing it will be easier for fans to accept Dante getting back together with a hopefully newly-awakened Lulu Falconeri (Emme Rylan) if Sam is out of the equation, others suspect Sam’s departure could only make it more difficult for Dante to let himself move forward — or backward.
It’s possible that Sam could die. We’ve got to admit that to ourselves now and live in the reality of this situation as it starts to unfold. Of course, there’s no telling how that death could occur.
Does Sam get wrapped up in work with Damien Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) or some other case that gets too dangerous?
Does Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) lose it and finally get even with her? Does an enemy of Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) or Dante’s make good on their threats? Is it a complete accident?
However it happens, Sam’s death would leave Dante wrecked. Would he be in any shape to open his heart to Lulu at that point? The guilt would probably eat him alive knowing he still wanted Lulu even when he was with Sam.
Sam was quite clear this week when she told Dante he doesn’t have to explain his feelings for his ex-wife. She knows Lulu will always be with him, and she doesn’t want him to expel that part of himself to make her feel better.
Being the bigger person suited Sam well, and the black dress she dawned at the time evoked emotions of her ultimately passing. But it’s possible that Sam just opts out of this drama when Dante’s feelings for Lulu come to light in a way she can’t disregard anymore.
But she may also find it’s time for her to leave Port Charles and start fresh someplace away from all of the pain. Will giving Dante permission to love Lulu again only leave him feeling less entitled to do so and painfully aware of what he’s done to Sam?
Dante can’t help the way he feels, but that doesn’t mean he’ll act on it. After all, he was still in love with Lulu before the explosion at the Floating Rib. He didn’t tell her. He let her move on and tried to do the same with his own life.
He knows Lulu would have done the same for him, and she was trying to. But we know how much GH loves a slow burn.
While we could say the last almost-four years of Lulu being in a coma counts for that, we expect these two aren’t just going to jump back into living life happily ever after if she wakes up.
It makes sense that Sam’s absence may be the thing haunting Dante that he can’t shake the next time around. Will it prevent him from getting back on track with Lulu? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to find out.
