Fans React To Nicki Minaj Calling Princess Diana Her “Dear Friend” And Holding A Moment Silence For Her

Last year, Nicki Minaj lended her rap talents to Ice Spice for her hit song ‘Princess Diana.’ This year, she held a moment’s silence for the late British cultural icon. Here’s how the ‘Anaconda’ star paid tribute to the late Princess of Wales at her May 26 concert in Birmingham.

Nicki Minaj Asks Fans To Have A “Moment of Silence” For Princess Diana Over Two Decades Following Her Tragic Passing

The Queen of Rap paid tribute to the late Princess during her Sunday, May 26 Pink Friday 2 tour stop in Birmingham.

“It always reminds me of a dear friend of mine. Well, she’s not here anymore, but the Princess of Wales,” she said of Diana, who died from a car accident in 1997 at the age of 36.

This unplanned moment came in-between songs as the 41-year-old talked to a member of her audience and they told her that they were from Wales. After a slight pause, the “Superbass” rapper asked for a “moment of silence” before continuing on with her set.

With the moment going viral online, fans had a lot of thoughts about it. “Since when is the princess of wales a dear friend to her,” one fan shared, while another pointed out that she was only 14 by the time the Princess passed.

While some seemed skeptical about the shout-out, others were quite happy at what they considered a beautiful tribute to the late Diana. “Nicki Minaj holding a minute’s silence for Princess Diana is not what I ever expected to see in my life but is absolutely essential viewing for us Di fans. Beautiful,” a fan gushed.

Minaj’s love for Princess Diana has been well-documented, with the rapper revealing that her 2018 album ‘Queen’ was inspired by the late Princess of Wales.

At the time, she shared a clip of Diana in an interview following her separation from then-Prince Charles, which saw her say, “I think every strong woman in history has had to walk down a similar path. It’s the strength that causes confusion and fear. ‘Why is she strong? Where did she get it from? Where is she taking it? Where is she going to use it? Why do the public still support her?'”

Minaj then wrote, “God bless this woman’s legacy & every woman who’s ever felt like this.”
