B&B John McCook Retirement? What We Know!

Some fans have started speculating that John McCook may be hankering to leave Bold and the Beautiful, even though he has basically been there since it’s inception in 1987.

Now, some might say that he is getting too old or too tired to play the role, but according to McCook, he is hanging in there!

Even after Eric Forrester’s medical issues last year, which would have normally been some veteran actor’s cue for a swan song, not McCook.

He says that every day he celebrated privately, the fact that he has this job and the ability to be creative, “Every time I get something new to play, I’m thrilled! Because how many old man stories are there? I have to rely on Brad (Bell) and the writers to keep coming up with things. I don’t want to just be the old guy, bouncing his grandchildren on his knee and saying sweet things to them.”

The Bold and The Beautiful John McCook says that one day they will probably have to cart him off the set when he’s unable to work anymore, or call his wife to come and get him. As of right now it looks like he is perfectly content to keep on playing Eric Forrester for the duration.

You have to admit steady employment during these times of the gig economy is quite an attractive thing, especially when one considers the alternative, a fun job where you get to pretend to be a rich VIP all day or shuffling days in your slippers and robe enjoying your retirement?

Guess it all depends on the vibes you have and how much you really like your job but McCook really seems to like his, that’s all we’re saying.

Of course he wants good things for The Bold and The Beautiful Eric, we all do, we want him to be a happy Grandpa but at the same time who says that happy Grandpa’s can’t be interesting, compelling characters as well?

In his recent on-screen appearance at the Forrester celebration for the launch of Brooke’s Bedroom, we saw him canoodling with Donna Logan (Jennifer Harris) all too happily and being the spry old dog that he is, it’s clear that age is truly just a number in the Forrester men’s bloodline, makes us wonder what the next generation of Forrester men will be like when they reach senior citizen age.

As of Jan. Of 2024, in an interview with soaps.com he said that. The only reason we could see that he might retire or take a significant step back from filming is because of some previously undisclosed health issues that he may have off-screen.
