Hijack renewed for season 2 on Apple TV+
Apple TV+ has renewed Hijack for a second season and confirms that Elba will return as negotiator Sam Nelson. The series reveals Nelson on a plane between Dubai and London, which is seemingly hijacked by terrorists.
Experienced at his job, Nelson steps in to try and diffuse the situation on the seven-hour flight before anyone gets hurt. However, he soon finds out there is more to the hijackers’ story than it seems. The cast also featured Christine Adams, Archie Panjabi, Ben Miles and Max Beesley.
Speaking of the renewed series, Elba said he was “floored by the overwhelming audience response after season 1”, adding:
It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!
Meanwhile, Idris will again serve as an executive producer on the show along with its creators, George Kay and Jim Field Smith’s company Idiotlamp Productions. Other executive producers on the series are Jamie Laurenson, Tom Nash and Hakan Kousetta of 60Forty Films. Moreover, Field Smith is also set to direct the second season.
When making the announcement, Jay Hunt, Apple TV+’s creative director for Europe said:
Global audiences were on tenterhooks watching Idris’ riveting performance in ‘Hijack,’ and we’re thrilled to be working again with 60Forty and Idiotlamp on an equally compelling Season 2.
What will happen in season 2?
While there are no plot details as yet for the new season and Elba is keeping his lips zipped, he did tell Variety last summer that he would return as Nelson if he and the producers could find the right storyline.
“I’m open to that character coming back. I think if people were compelled to like the character, then I’m in,” Elba said. “But it’s kind of like — he’s not a cop [so] what would be the acceptable Sam Nelson return? And if I’m honest, I’m not sure. I’d like that, but I just don’t want to put him on another hijack.”
Until more details are available, fans can wonder what is coming, but at least we know that Hijack has officially been renewed for season 2.
