According to executive producer Gwen Sigan, Hatosy’s new role will bring a “new dynamic for the unit,” adding:

I think he sees a lot of himself in Voight and identifies quite a bit with Voight and Voight’s philosophy as a police officer, and they have a really interesting relationship that will evolve as the season goes on.

Shawn Hatosy is the latest new star to join Chicago P.D., as it previously cast New Amsterdam star Toya Turner as patrol officer Kiana Cook. Meanwhile, both new castings come in the wake of Tracy Spiridakos’ exit as Detective Hailey Upton after season 8. However, her official replacement has currently not been revealed

Moreover, it is currently unknown what the two new characters will bring to the Intelligence Unit. However, it is likely the pair will have some interaction in the show, both with the unit and each other, especially with the deputy chief seeing himself in Voight. This could, indeed, lead to some interesting storylines.

Where have you seen Shawn Hatosy before?

Fans of TNT’s show Animal Kingdom will recognize Hatosy as Andrew “Pope” Cody. Moreover, he has starred in all six seasons from 2016 to 2022. Meanwhile, the actor also starred in the procedural Southland for all five seasons from 2009 to 2013.

The actor’s other credits include the following and more, mostly in police or related dramas:

  • Law & Order
  • SEAL Team
  • Flaked
  • Fear the Walking Dead
  • Bosch
  • Reckless
  • Body of Proof
  • Law & Order: SVU
  • Criminal Minds
  • Hawaii Five-0

What can fans expect from season 12 of Chicago P.D.

So far, little has been revealed about the upcoming twelfth season, but it will likely be weird without Spiridakos. Moreover, fans find it hard to recover from Jesse Lee Soffer’s exit at the start of season 10 when it was announced.

As season 12 premieres on Wednesday, September 25 at 10 pm ET on NBC, fans don’t have too long to wait. For those who need a catch-up, all 11 seasons of Chicago, P.D. are currently streaming on Peacock.
