In the latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Emily and her parents got a shock when traveling to Kobe’s home country. The couple visited Cameroon to spend time with Kobe’s family and learn more about his culture.
However, in the episode, Kobe revealed that he and his family want them to marry again in a traditional ceremony in Cameroon. They want them to do so in order that Kobe’s dad recognizes the marriage.
During this season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Kobe takes Emily, their children and her parents to Cameroon. Meanwhile, this is the first time Kobe has been home since meeting Emily in China, getting married and having kids in Kansas.
For this reason, the trip is emotional for Kobe. In Sunday’s episode, Kobe was moved to tears as his parents and 10 siblings finally meet Emily, the children and his in-laws.
Meanwhile, it was clear that Emily and her parents experienced culture shock in Cameroon. However, Kobe’s dad, Isadore, thanked Emily’s dad, David for loving Kobe as one of their own. He even joked that he hadn’t thought Kobe would ever get a wife.
Following this, Isadore explained that he wants the couple to get married in Cameroon in a traditional wedding to get their ancestors’ blessing. This clearly came as a shock to Emily and her parents, making them concerned that they weren’t going to be in the country long. Meanwhile, Kobe explained to Emily:
Because we didn’t get married in the traditional way in Cameroon, my dad doesn’t fully, you know, look at you as my wife. I didn’t know my dad was going to, you know, come out with this. We really need to make him happy.
After the discussion about the traditional wedding, Emily and her parents voiced their concerns, with Emily saying:
I’m worried because just planning our wedding in America took so much time, effort and energy that I don’t know how I’m gonna [sic] pull it off in another country and only have two weeks to do it.
However, Kobe explained to Emily what goes into a traditional Cameroonian wedding. Among the details, he explained that Emily and her parents would have to prepare traditional dishes for the guests the night before. Moreover, Kobe’s parents would receive a dowry for Emily in a traditional he termed “knock door.”
Meanwhile, in a confessional, Emily’s mom said:
Kobe just keeps saying, ‘It’s tradition, it’s tradition’ — and I get that. I understand they’ve been doing this for hundreds of years, but I definitely have questions about this whole knock door situation. It feels to me like I am giving them my daughter in trade for goods. Nothing about that feels right to me.
Moreover, Kobe told Emily and her family that they would expect 100 guests to be at the wedding, which shocked her and her family.
“This sounds like it’s gonna [sic] be wild,” David said.
Meanwhile, even though Kobe said the wedding was going to be “fun,” Emily was still worried, telling the cameras:
I don’t know how to be a Cameroonian wife. Also, I don’t know how to cook any of his traditional food so I don’t know how I’m gonna [sic] do it, but it’s really important for me to show Kobe’s family that I want to be part of his culture. So, I’m willing to try and prove myself for the relationship.
Keep up with Emily and Kobe’s journey in Cameroon on Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on TLC.
