’90 Day Fiance’ Fans Slam Veah Netherton But Did She Deserve It?

90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days star Veah Netherton takes some heat, and a lot of it focuses on the lack of understanding about South African society. Recently, TLC fans slammed her for her ignorance when she visited a market. But, was all the criticism warranted? Read on to find out and decide for yourself. 

Veah Netherton Slammed For Immaturity 

Plenty of 90 Day Fiance fans think that Veah made a mistake taking her ex, Rory along with her when she met Sunny Mahdi in Durban, South Africa. Actually, it’s not a bad idea to have a male escort for safety, but she upset Sunny because he was an ex. That aside, she ended up slammed for not knowing the traffic laws. 

Veah Netherton seemed confused because, in South Africa, vehicles travel on the left-hand side of the road and give way to the right. But as she hasn’t attempted to drive herself, that doesn’t seem like a major cultural issue unless she looks the wrong way when crossing a street. 

90 Day Fiance Star Slammed For Not Carrying Cash

TLC revealed that the American woman was in a market and she wanted to buy some pineapple. But when it came time to pay, the vendor did not accept Apple Pay and didn’t have a machine for any cards. So, she told Veah, “I only take cash.” Nevertheless, Rory was also at the market so, he arrived and paid for it in rands, the local currency. 

Veah Netherton was roundly slammed on Reddit when the footage was shared on the platform. Here are are few comments:

• Unbelievably stupid. This girl should have drowned a long time ago from staring into the sky, mouth agape, while it rains. For real.
• I hate this. She is so ignorant and her brain is running on fumes. How could someone want to go to another country and NOT bring some cash or Google anything for that matter[?]
• The concept of foreign currency is going waaaaaaaay over her head. I wouldn’t be surprised if she worked at a tanning salon.

Was Veah Badly Ignorant Of Payment Methods?

Judging by the comments section on Reddit, it seems that a lot of people presume South Africa is a very backward country. Did you know that Apple Pay is available in the country, but it’s optional and locals need to sign up for it via a nominated bank? Were you aware that using a phone app, Visa, or Mastercard debit or credit card at a store in the country is preferable to carrying cash? Also, USA dollars in cash is problematic for vendors and shops given the difficulty of difficulty exchanging it due to forex laws. 

What are your thoughts on Veah Netherton trying to use Apple Pay in a market in South Africa? Was she completely ignorant? What she could have done, was draw cash at a bank and carry a small amount of rands with her. Carrying lots of cash is not a great idea due to the possibility of crime.
