What Is Lupus?

According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus isn’t easy to diagnose as it can affect many different parts of the body. Caused by an auto-immune issue, it can attack “your own tissues and organs.” Often, it affects “joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.” In fact, the symptoms can vary so much, that no wonder it’s not easy to figure out what’s going on.

Of course, you have heard of Janet Jackson. But, you might not be aware that Paula Abdul choreographed music videos for her. Others might recall that Paula Abdul was on American Idol as a judge in the 2000s and was involved with the X-Factor. Well, the successful singer/dancer has become a big voice in raising awareness for Lupus.

90 Day Fiance Star Ashley Martson Has Lupus

Ashley Martson is another 90 Day Fiance star with Lupus. The reality TV star debuted on TLC with her boyfriend, Jay Smith on Season  6. He was from Jamaica and their relationship eventually crashed and burned in 2021. Some fans scorned her claiming she had an illness, but she revealed her Lupus on social media along with medical records dating back to 2014.

These days, Ashley Martson stays fairly quiet and she apparently owns a salon. It’s seldom that she discusses her autoimmune illness. 

Nick Cannon Is A Famous Face With Lupus

The comedian, television host, actor, and rapper is a very famous face. Over the years, he’s hosted a number of reality TV shows and has been seen on America’s Got Talent and The Masked SingerNick Cannon was also known for hosting NBC’s Caught on Camera

Nick Cannon gave those with Lupus some inspiration about Lupus 10 years ago when he explained how he works on his fitness and takes “one day at a time.” 

Nick Cannon enjoys raising awareness about the illness and encourages research into living with the debilitating illness. 

Tamar Braxton Had A Health Scare 

Tamar Braxton is known for her singing and featured on several reality TV showsBeing Mary Jane and Braxton Family Values come to mind. She’s big into mental health awareness, but also talks about Lupus. Actually, last year, she opened up about a health scare that got her partnering with Aurinia Pharmaceuticals to raise awareness about kidney damage. 

Tamar Braxton focused in a conversation with Hoda Kotb on how dangerous it can be to “put things off until tomorrow, as everything’s gonna be fine.” Well, her advice is don’t do that.

Tamar Braxton has lived with the autoimmune disease for more than 15 years.
