Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) knew Phyllis was his best option after learning she loathed Diane more than he does. Viewers recall Phyllis used a burner phone to contact Jeremy so he would know Diane was in Genoa City, Wisconsin.

Phyllis also told Jeremy something she did not know to be true. Yes, Diane turned Jeremy into the authorities, which resulted in him being imprisoned.

But Phyllis recognized Jeremy was trouble the moment she met him. His soulless stare implied he would not care who was hurt, including Phyllis’ loved ones.

Phyllis does not seem to recognize that Jeremy is using her to strike back at Diane, who also worked with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) to frame him for a recent crime against Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) he did not commit.

But viewers know that even if Diane is arrested, and imprisoned for Phyllis’ assumed faked death, she will eventually be exonerated. However, Phyllis’ loved ones, meaning Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) and Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier), will be emotionally devastated and later destroyed.

Phyllis offered farewell speeches to her children before taking the lead in the plan she agreed to be part of with Jeremy. Her misplaced emotion fronted what she knew was coming.

Phyllis was good at first. She flew to be with Jack when he was in Los Angeles, California, after being shocked by Diane’s reveal. Phyllis knew that Diane would be a problem and that Jack was thrust into what would likely become an untenable position.

Jack’s mistake was choosing to believe Phyllis was wrong for standing against Diane. He and all who chided Phyllis forced her into a corner.

Yes, she chose to conspire with Jeremy. But she intended to protect Jack and others from what Diane represents. And now Phyllis is going to an even greater extreme to prove the point on Y&R.
