The Newman family has enjoyed general peace since Victor told Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) he intended to acquire McCall Unlimited and have him run it.
Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) wanted to buy the company from Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) and fold it into Newman Enterprises until recently changing her mind.
Victor was surprised Victoria admitted to telling Tucker that her family’s conglomerate was no longer interested. Adam responded with his hot-headed pattern when Victor relayed that Victoria nixed the pursuit.
Adam reacted after his dad told him he could not have dessert before eating dinner. Grossman’s character has retained his infantile demeanor, using it as a shield to prevent being supposedly wronged.
But what Victor said about McCall Unlimited was different than what Adam heard. Braeden’s character told his youngest son that the effort to purchase Tucker’s company hit another snag.
Adam did not want to explore his father’s suggestion that they needed to find an alternative path to this deal. He later told Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) that his father chose Victoria over him again, which was a melodramatic interpretation.
Victor wants to believe Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) has become disinclined to accepting Tucker’s pitch. That came after Victor recently tried to dissuade Devon from using a purchase of McCall Unlimited as a safety net and purposely dedicating the Neil Winters’ (Kristoff St. John) jazz during the bicentennial gala.
Devon was moved by Victor and Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) gesture, as was Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). The siblings reconciled during the celebration, with Devon telling Lily the next day that he wants to continue their family partnership at Chancellor-Winters.
Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) was speaking with Tucker at Society while Victor was present. He asked Audra what Tucker had to say, and she gladly dished that the deal with Devon was not done. Victor wanted to believe that meant it will not happen, and it might not.
Victor has plenty of resources. Whether he wants to risk his assets to buy a toy for Adam is a complex calculation.
McCall Unlimited is deep in debt, with that red ink owned by Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson). It would be wiser to have Newman Enterprises assume the financial risk. But Victor said he will not oppose Victoria’s decision.
So, if Victor wants good relations with Adam, he will need to find a creative way to buy Tucker’s company, assuming Devon does not buy it on Y&R.
