Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) had to intervene after Devon and Lily’s loud argument happened. Abby pulled Devon away with a diversion about their son needing diapers.
Longtime fans of the show are likely upset by Lily and Devon’s degrading exchange. Full kudos to Khalil and James for digging into their characters and delivering memorable performances.
Lily and Devon referenced their parents at different points during the verbal battle. Lily dealt Devon a series of low blows about him cheating on Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) and not being the man Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) was.
Devon excoriated his sister, who sat through the tense exchange. Lily’s lunch was halted by his arrival at her table.
Devon told his adopted sister something he thought he would never think, let alone say. He was glad Neil and Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) were not around to see who she had become.
Those who may be leaning or are on Team Lily can repeat her strongest point. She told Devon, on multiple occasions, that he was not honoring the merger contract he signed last year.
Devon agreed to merge Hamilton-Winters with Chancellor Industries. Initially, he and Lily were excited to work together. They included their cousin, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), offering him a high-level position with promise.
Nate sabotaged himself by secretly working with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) in Newman Enterprises’ failed attempt to take control of Chancellor-Winters. Victoria is currently asking him to thwart Tucker McCall’s (Trevor St. John) attempt to sell McCall Unlimited to Devon.
Devon is not opposed to Jill Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) and Lily moving forward with the initial stock offering plan. He is okay with that happening, after he buys back his portion of Chancellor-Winters.
He rejected Lily’s compromise offer, which would see him paid over-market value for his part of the merged company after the stock offering happens. It is reasonable for Devon to want to provide CW with a significant amount of capital as a way for Jill and Lily to pursue their ultimate goal of expanding the company’s position.
Lily and Devon are both losing out even though the stock offering has not happened. Devon did not agree to a delayed payout, and Jill and Lily have not considered whatever number James’ character would offer.
Team Lily and Team Devon are already damaged by the emotional injuries each sibling is inflicting. The legal system appears to be the only potential remedy to resolve business disagreements. But that outcome will never resolve personal differences on Y&R.
