The security Nick offers is enormous. Sally recognizes and admires his parental experience. She remains hopeful that he is the father of the baby she will deliver later this summer.
But the paternity issue has been weighing on her. That is why she forced herself to do what was right and tell Nick that his brother may also be the father.
The sight of Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) walking to Sally’s door at the Grand Phoenix hotel was affirming. He heard her talking with Nick but did not stay long enough to overhear reference to the baby.
Adam loves her and has not given up on the long game. But he does not know that he might be tied to Sally forever. She does not want him to be the father but can not deny that her love for him is greater than what she feels for Nick.
Grossman’s character was later shown sitting at the Phoenix’s bar having yet another drink. The contrast between Sally’s tell to Nick about Adam being in the paternity mix and that same man sitting alone downstairs with his liquor glass was sharp.
Sally was honest with Nick in the recent past. Hope’s character told him that she was with Adam in her hotel suite.
The sight of an unmade bed informed Nick that Sally and Adam had a romantic encounter before he arrived. She stated that what happened represented a goodbye. Nick took that in stride, knowing Sally’s lingering feelings for Adam existed.
Considering the triangular dynamic, Nick’s experience in battling his brother for various women, and Morrow’s character’s history of romance, he had to have guessed Adam could be the father of Sally’s baby before she told him, or at least it was reasonable to believe he did.
Sally could have a paternity test where Nick is the sole candidate. If the match is strong enough, she can presume Adam is not the father.
Adam could happen upon the testing procedure or learn about it after the fact and no matter the result. He would likely demand to take a test himself.
Nick once believed he was Christian Newman’s (Alex Wilson) father. He later learned that the late Sage Newman’s (Kelly Sullivan) son was fathered by Adam. Might a role reversal happen in this storyline, with Nick confirming he is the father, or will Adam claim his paternity stake and learn Nick is the dad on Y&R?
