Time is handled differently on the soaps. That is necessary for storytelling, as devoted fans of the genre know. They can accept whatever jumps are made in time as long as they make sense and further believable plot lines.

In the real world, the great Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) died ten years ago in May. Her cast mates, Y&R’s remaining crew, and all who loved her on the other side of the screen, likely pause when considering that it has been a decade since this show’s greatest actor and its greatest character died.

The interior of the mansion changed when Abby and Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) were living there with Dom. The view of the main living room was switched and became almost unrecognizable. Plus, the painting of Katherine was no longer visible.

As part of the fiftieth anniversary of this great soap opera, it is time to restore the Chancellor mansion. Chance was living on his own, following Abby leaving him.

So, the mansion scenes were ditched in recent months. It was harder to create scenarios where people would visit Chance. That is what makes his offer to Abby and Devon encouraging.

Chance felt Dom was being negatively affected by having to leave the place he has called home and visit the penthouse. So, Abby and Devon were offered the opportunity to move with him into Katherine’s estate.

It was somewhat contrived to have Abby feel she needed to break from Chance and couple with Devon. But they had been friends and Devon is the donor-father.

Abby is committed to Devon, and they truly seem to be in love with each other. That benefits Dom, who will be living full-time in his family’s home.

All who have followed this show since the beginning and others who began watching along the way from then to now appreciate its history. This development fits nicely and furthers the momentum Devon, Abby, and their son have on Y&R.
