Phyllis defended her life which Jeremy threatened to take. Stafford’s character made many mistakes since Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) revealed herself as alive. Choosing to tell Jeremy she was backing out of their poisoning hoax, which framed Diane for Phyllis’ murder, was the worst.
Jeremy did not have to be told anything. Phyllis could have gone home and told the truth to everyone or, if she sought to avoid consequences, could have gone to Chance and blamed everything on Hyde’s late character.
Phyllis was already guilty of multiple crimes when she killed Jeremy. No one witnessed that act. So, she may be facing murder charges soon.
However, by wrapping Jeremy’s body in the motel’s white bed sheets and binding them, Phyllis appears to be hiding the evidence of her self-defense response. It would seem she hopes that the body is never found. Unless Phyllis somehow tries to implicate Diane in that crime.
Walters’ character was in jail when Jeremy was killed. But maybe Phyllis can create a scenario where it looks like Diane called for a hit.
Chance thought he was onto Jeremy. GC’s top detective believed Jeremy conned Phyllis into marrying him, killed her, and then tried to frame that death on Diane.
Floyd’s character had every reason to believe Jeremy was orchestrating said events. But Chance missed one fact. Phyllis was in on everything with Jeremy.
As a side note, it is intriguing that TPTB appear to be furthering a growing connection between Chance and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case). Swapping Chance in for Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) as GC’s lead detective was easy. Pairing his widow with Chance is harder to believe but doable if written well.
Phyllis was profoundly touched by the reaction her children offered at the wake. Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) and Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) are lost without their mother, who they treated badly before her perceived sudden death.
The Young and the Restless spoilers show that Phyllis is highly resourceful. She can pin her seeming death on Jeremy as a kidnapping gone wrong.
The above speculative outcome would also mean Diane goes free. However, Phyllis told Jeremy before their fatal confrontation that the cost was too high to frame Diane. Yes, Phyllis’ priorities have radically changed on Y&R.
