Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) hit the soapy nail on the head when he said that something was way off. He, like many other characters and the audience watching on the other side of the screen, knows Phyllis’ so-called death is steeped in weird circumstances.
Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) is convinced Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) killed her mother. But Chance Chancellor (Connor Floyd) feels otherwise. He has no conclusive proof but believes Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) killed Phyllis for her money and wants to frame Diane for the crime.
If one looked sideways at the digital screen, Phyllis could be said to slightly resemble Jerry Lewis (Julius Kelp before the Buddy Love transformation) in The Nutty Professor. The glasses, in particular, and dark hair created the pop culture reference.
Viewers suspended disbelief when seeing Phyllis mix into a group of Genoa City Athletic Club employees, all who were wearing matching uniforms. She managed to obtain one for herself and sure enough, it fit perfectly.
Of course, soap fans accept a lot to move many plots along. This one might be speeding toward either a self-reveal or a forced reveal.
Phyllis was exhibiting serious trepidation when she asked Jeremy how her children reacted to the news of her supposed death. His response was tone deaf as he miscalculated the intensity of her bond with Daniel and Summer.
Jeremy appears to have no children or, if he does, has zero paternal feelings. Hyde’s character was angered when learning that Phyllis did not get onto a scheduled flight that should have taken her far away from Genoa City, Wisconsin.
Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) is walking on a narrow path. Not only is she choosing to remain with a man who is not the father of the baby she is having, but that guy is also Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) brother.
Adam was pleasantly surprised that Sally asked him to attend her upcoming doctor’s appointment, where she anticipates learning whether a baby boy or girl will be born this summer. Sally’s fondness for Adam has never diminished as she tries to will herself to stay with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow).
Sally is convinced Nick is the logical choice to spend her future with because he is mature and projects toward the stability she craves. But Adam’s place in her heart occupies an immeasurable volume that worries Nick, though he rarely and understandably references that insecurity on Y&R.
