A recent soft episode had the Abbott family’s voice of reason, Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), broker a temporary cessation of activities between her siblings. Jack and Ashley heeded her call to stop fighting and have a nice chat in the fabled front-facing living room setting.

But that peace talk proved momentary, as both sides returned to their stations. Jack and Ashley are entrenched in thinking their view supports the legacy John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) created.

Jack is the Chief Executive Officer at Jabot. He feels that the title suits him based on decades of loyalty and Ashley’s quixotic tenure with the family business.

Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) became Jack’s third handpicked co-CEO. He followed Kyle Abbot (Michael Mealor) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), whose short run led to Billy’s return to the company.

Jack liked Diane’s idea to use Billy as a Trojan Horse. The goal was for Billy and Jack to have a public falling out that Ashley and Tucker would witness. It proved successful, with Ashley believing her younger brother agrees with her about Diane.

Ashley wants to save Jabot by ousting Diane. Having failed at preventing Jack from being overtaken by his now-wife, Ashley’s next move is to use Billy as a weapon.

Billy appears to be following Diane’s game. But Thompson’s character let Tucker have it, implying that a different outcome could be had.

Jack and Ashley generally fight, stop interacting, and then eventually makeup. Collateral damage is one consequence, as all in proximity of the fight suffer great stress. But Billy stands at the center of this mess and can implement Traci’s mature approach and stifle Jack and Ashley by siding with neither sibling but rather doing what is best for them and Jabot on Y&R.
