Phyllis was entering Noah Newman’s (Rory Gibson) smash setting when she spotted Diane with Jeremy Stark (James Hyde). That sight was stunning, causing Stafford to offer one of her many classic reaction shots.
Diane was chatting up Jeremy, attempting to assuage doubts about her sincerity. Phyllis recorded Diane embracing Jeremy. But she appeared out of range from capturing audio which would have provided a tip about the impending burglary, which is another risky move Walters’ character is taking.
Diane has been increasingly preying on Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) sense of fairness. He believes Jeremy is the villain who wronged Diane, apparently compartmentalizing the murder hoax that initially caused Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) to face a murder charge.
The truth is that Diane saw Jeremy as a monied man who could smoothly pave her California lifestyle. The gold-digger was living as Taylor Jensen for years. She did not care that her son’s life was crushed and left Jack carry the load.
Jack should be familiar with a mother abandoning her children, based on Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) self-centered actions. But Bergman’s character has been fooled by Diane’s gimmick. That sickens Phyllis.
Jack is a good guy, and Jeremy is a criminal. But Jack should follow Jeremy’s lead when it comes to assessing Diane.
Viewers know the truth. Diane loves herself far more than Jack and arguably more than Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez). So, being a narcissist, she allows people to put themselves in danger if it benefits her.
The recent Abbott cabin runaway plan, employed over Christmas, could have resulted in Jeremy tracking Kyle, Summer Newman (Allison Lanier), and Harrison. Diane had no way of knowing if that was true, and Hyde’s character could still reveal that he did so.
Digitally skipping to new year’s manipulations, Diane instantly accepted Jack’s offer to steal Nikki’s jewelry. Yes, she is using him big time.
Summer got caught up in her mother-in-law’s whirlwind. But she recently pulled herself out and is no longer a Diane backer. That is a win for Phyllis.
Diane sees Phyllis, Nikki, and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) as tormentors, and was trying to gin up sympathy from Jeremy. She could easily turn on Summer if Lanier’s character is not careful.
Phyllis is Jack’s best hope even though he can not see it. Viewers should anticipate Stafford’s character playing a role in Jack’s eventual re-awakening on Y&R.
