Diane had every right to leave the Abbott mansion after Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd) efforts confirmed Phyllis was not dead. That revelation moves the storyline to a needed next chapter.

Hardcore fans recall that Phyllis, Ashley, and Nikki conspired to run Diane out of town many months ago. But their work arguably strengthened her position.

Phyllis’ situation was described as a mess. But it is far more than that.

Along with framing Diane for her murder, which never happened, Phyllis killed Jeremy. DNA evidence proved Phyllis was alive. Will that scientific track be taken to link her to Jeremy’s death?

Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) and Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) made themselves accessories to their mother’s crimes after the fact. Phyllis realizes the gravity of having done that to her children but is so desperate that she has to rely on them while attempting to create a solution.

A search of Jeremy’s digital footprint might provide some relief. But locating the emergency medical technician he paid to help create the faked ambulance crash feels like the most promising lead.

Backhanded compliments must be offered to Diane. She has gotten away with framing Nikki for murdering her many years ago, faking death, and bamboozling Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

Bergman’s character appears more committed to Diane than ever. He has become Diane’s full champion. But her detractors have fueled that defensive effort.

Diane is riding high as spring is yawning. But the audience wonders if she will thrive or melt this summer on Y&R.
