Jeremy represents a real threat that will not disappear any time soon. His brazen behavior was generated by Diane having reported him to the authorities on two occasions. The first was for a legitimate crime, money laundering.
But the second crime, grand larceny, was not one Jeremy committed. Instead, he knows that Diane framed him, and that is fueling his unquenchable thirst for revenge.
Viewers dealt with the accidental death of Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) last year. His demise was accidental. That helped Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) rid herself of a threat to her life.
Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) defended his sister, who was in danger of being assaulted in her home. Ashland was out of his mind at that point in the storyline, with Nick’s actions not intended to put him in an early grave.
So, would TPTB write out another side character villain by having him die? Yes, because that scenario, assuming it happens, should be handled differently.
Diane faked her death when Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) was a boy. So, that happened a few decades ago in soap-time. In real-time, that climax took place in 2011 when Maura West (Diane) embodied the character.
Jeremy met Diane while she was living under an assumed name, Taylor Jenkins. She believed he fell for her. But he was using Diane as a mule to launder money.
Hyde’s character revealed to Diane, through created flashbacks, that he was aware of her true identity. The bitter end to their initial relationship eventually led to Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) contacting Jeremy and providing intel about Diane.
It will be soapy justice if Jeremy creates a scenario where he is believed to have died, and Diane is held responsible for his murder. Jeremy’s pitch to Phyllis to help him bring Diane down included the promise that he had a guaranteed plan to make that happen.
Diane’s luck probably will not run out, meaning she will not be successfully framed for murder, or whatever Jeremy is planning for her, to the point of permanent jail time. But she seems likely to realize a reprisal that produces deep drama.
Jack’s arguably foolish attachment to Diane indicates that he will be fully involved in whatever scheme Jeremy enacts. Bergman’s character is certainly in the line of danger as well.
Diane loves Jack but appears destined not to enjoy the blissful life she wants with him. She and Jack may only blame themselves for not working with the police and taking the law into their own hands, where Jeremy is concerned, on Y&R.
