Barbara Crampton (Leanna Love) told SOD she wasn’t overly surprised she was asked to be a part of the Y&R’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. She notes that she saw the show was reaching this milestone soon on social media and got on the phone with her agent letting them know she wanted to be a part of things.
With that said, Crampton notes she wasn’t being “pushy”; the soap had asked her back to reprise her role several times in the past, it’s just things didn’t work out because of other commitments and raising her kids. Now that she’s back in L.A. and her children are in college, Crampton knew the time was right for a return. There are eight episodes that cover GC’s bicentennial, and Love is involved in seven of them.
The last time Barbara appeared in the daytime drama was in 2007, and she was happy that writers stayed true to Leanna’s character this time around. She notes she’s still the “sassy”, “combative”, “funny”, and “fun” lady, she always was. Most of all, Crampton reveals to SOD that the best part was reuniting and working with past castmates like Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Jill Abbott (Jess Walton), and of course, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman).
While talking to SOD, Tricia Cast (Nina Webster) echoes Ms. Crampton’s sentiments. She states that the celebration was “very special”, noting that seeing Lauralee Bell (Christine Williams), Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), and Gina Romalotti (Patty Weaver) was like no time had passed.
Cast was on set for two days, and during that time, she says she had a blast. She states to SOD that she loved the dress that wardrobe came up with for her character, although she couldn’t wear the heels they gave her the entire time; she just put on some boots (when the opportunity arose).
Tricia adds that “everyone” looked fabulous, and after everything was shot, cast members hung around after and just talked. Cast notes that even though she now lives in Tennessee, she’s up for returning to the show anytime the Y&R wants her back. As she states, “I love playing Nina”.
Meanwhile, Patty never expected a call back to celebrate the show’s 50th. Last seen in Genoa City in 2013, Weaver notes when “you’ve been gone for so long”, you don’t think people will remember you. Therefore, it was a beautiful thing when the soap called and invited her to take part in the celebrations.
While she was excited about her return, she was a little nervous, especially about trying to remember lines again. Weaver tells SOD that her first day back on set was “surreal”, and a little overwhelming; after all, the entire cast was on hand during filming. With that said, Patty notes that the return felt like “coming home”. In fact, she reveals that it didn’t take long for Christian J. LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin) to have her in stitches.
