Lola Rosales Abbott (Sasha Calle) was the second love of Kyle’s life. That came during a period in the plot where he wanted no parts of Summer (then played by Hunter King).

Devoted viewers recall that Summer devolved into an immature, wild child character. That appeared to be TPTB’s effort to contrast King’s sweeter alter ego.

Summer returned to Genoa City, Wisconsin, in a sports car she stole from a boyfriend down south. Lola became the anti-Summer.

Kyle fell in love with her, and they married. But eventually, that warm-hearted storyline ended, and Summer reformed herself.

Lanier became the Summer recast in 2022. She has delivered solid performances since the hand-off from King, who earned multiple Daytime Emmy Awards (2014 and 2015) for her performances.

This edition of Summer was introduced as a woman who embraced her role as Harrison Locke’s (Kellen Enriquez) stepmother. That reflected the love she had for Kyle and his son.

The Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) fake death storyline allowed Lanier to shine. Summer was the child Phyllis picked to handle the burden of knowing she was not killed by Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters).

Dovetailing the end of Phyllis’ crisis with Kyle’s breaking of his marriage vows affords Lanier further meaningful screen time.

Kyle is a hothead, as both of his parents can be. His ridiculous thought model created the need for him to leave Summer when that never had to be the preferred option.

Nikki is teased to drill into Kyle about his recent decision. She will likely not tolerate any furtherance of his dalliance with Audra at Newman Media, assuming Nikki allows them to work together on Y&R.
