Y&R Spoilers: Alum Shemar Moore’s S.W.A.T Is Canceled By CBS After 6 Seasons

Young and the Restless (Y&R) alum, Shemar Moore’s (Malcolm Winters) primetime show S.W.A.T has been canceled by CBS after six seasons. The crime drama was a reboot of the mid-70s show, where Moore lead the cast playing LAPD Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. The final episode will air on Friday, May 19th.

An official statement was released, and Amy Reisenbach, CBS Entertainment President, notes that for six seasons, the incredible talents of the S.W.A.T. cast, led by Moore, the show’s producers, writers, and crew, guided by executive producers Aaron Rahsaan, Andy Dettman, and Shawn Ryan brought viewers action-packed and compelling episodes that also rose awareness around key social issues.

She goes on to add that because of this, S.W.A.T. contributed to the success of CBS’s primetime lineup. Reisenback goes on to thank everyone who worked on the show and the fans who watched every week.

Y&R Spoilers – S.W.A.T. Did Not Get Cancelled Because Of Ratings

It should be noted that ratings were not the reason behind S.W.A.T.’s cancellation. In fact, the show’s viewership rose year over year into the double digits, going from 6.41 million in the 2021/2022 season to 6.82 this season.

With that said, the root cause could be economics, as it was the costliest series that required renewal. As it is co-produced by CBS Studios and Sony Pictures TV, the problem was licensing fees, and a reduction in the show’s episodes going into a new season.

This would ultimately hurt the per-episode budget, which made it impossible for the series to go on.
With that said, now that Shemar’s time has freed up, could fans see him in Genoa City more often?

He’s currently making an appearance on the Y&R during May Sweeps, reprising his iconic role as Malcolm Winters.
