Y&R Comings And Goings: Special Guest Star Pays Tribute To John Abbott

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers for the week of June 19, 2023 reveal that fans are in for a special treat as the show continues to air episodes celebrating its 50th anniversary.

On Thursday, June 22 Y&R airs a stand-alone episode featuring Genoa City’s core family, the Abbotts.

Kym Douglas, the real-life widow of actor Jerry Douglas, who portrayed John Abbott, will be seen as Zelda Winston, Traci Abbott’s (Beth Maitland) agent.

Jerry Douglas passed away November 9, 2021. Douglas is survived by his wife Kym Douglas, and three children, Jod, Hunter and Avra. He starred for decades as the patriarch of the town’s legendary family, and was head of Jabot Cosmetics.

Douglas was born Gerald Rubenstein on Nov. 12, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts. His initial career goal was to earn a law degree and he enrolled at Brandeis University at the age of 18. Before the year was out, he was auditioning for parts and the rest is history.

Handsome and talented, Douglas starred on 1960s shows such as “The Untouchables” and “The Donna Reed Show.” In the ’70s series he appeared on “Mission: Impossible,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “The Rockford Files,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Quincy M.E.,” “Melrose Place” and “Cold Case.”

He also appeared on the silver screen in “Mommie Dearest,” “Good Guys Wear Black” and “JFK.”

Today John’s kids, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davison) and Traci carry on the family tradition which includes business as well as fussing and feuding. At the moment Jack and Ashley are in the midst of WWIII, and have turned the family mansion into a battlefield.

Each has moved their significant other into the mansion, and both partners are loved and loathed in equal parts. John Abbott would not be pleased with the state of affairs taking place under his roof.

John appeared in almost 900 episodes, debuting in 1981 and remaining on the canvas until the show killed off the character in 2016.
