Kevin Costner and his wife were ready for the 2023 Golden Globes, with his tuxedo ready at a Los Angeles hotel, along with his wife, Christine’s dress. However, he and his wife got cut off by devastating floods in Ventura on the way to the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. While Costner was very disappointed, he had to make do with watching the event on TV in his Montecito home.

Yesterday, Kevin finally received his Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for Yellowstone in the mail. In a video, shared by Golden Globes on YouTube, the actor who plays John Dutton explained how disappointed they were. He explained how they felt after being cut off by the flooding in Ventura, saying:

We felt so horrible about that and there was just nothing we could do, and we watched the time like sand in a bottle go out as our chances dimmed of getting there. And so we watched from home, and it wasn’t the same.

Costner, 68, then explained how his tuxedo was ready and waiting for him at a Los Angeles hotel, while Christine’s dress was also awaiting her. However, on the day of the awards ceremony, the actor took to Instagram to post a video to explain the problem and thank everyone for their support. In the clip that can be seen here, he opened up about his regret that he would have to miss the ceremony.

In his most recent video, Costner explained that he “never liked to be too cool for school” He went on to explain how much he wanted to be there. Meanwhile, his wife, Christine, realized his “heart was a little bit low,” and went and spent 30 bucks on 30 balloons. Basically, she wanted to at least celebrate a little while the family watched the Golden Globes event from their den. Kevin explained:

But my wife found a way to take something really simple and my children and I sat on the couch and we watched the whole doggone thing and my kids heard our name be called and, we weren’t at one of the greatest parties in the world; we wanted to be, but we found ourselves together as a family and my children heard my name called and they stood up and they cheered.

Unboxing the Golden Globe for Yellowstone

The Yellowstone actor then began to unbox the coveted Golden Globe and found the card that is usually read by a presenter. He read it to viewers, saying, “For best performance as an actor.” In the video, Costner didn’t mention that he had beat out Jeff Bridges for The Old Man, Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, Adam Scott for Severance and Diego Luna for Andor to win the coveted Golden Globe.

As he continued to unbox the award, he looked at it and said, “Wow,” before launching into his acceptance speech:

You know, when you first come to Hollywood, you just wanted to get your first job and you’ve seen these things [awards shows] and you even wonder if you’re ever going to get in a room like that.

It feels really good to have this. There’s no substitute for being there, but my wife made a night of it for us and all those balloons and now I’m holding it.

This was not his first Golden Globe award

The latest win is actually Kevin’s third Golden Globe. In fact, he previously won in the Best Director – Motion Picture Category for the 1991 movie, Dances With Wolves. Then, in 2013, he was awarded the Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film Category for Hatfields & McCoys.

Meanwhile, the current status of Yellowstone is bittersweet for fans, as we have to wait until the summer for the second part of season 5. On top of this, rumors are flying that the series will end with that season, or that Costner was leaving the series.

In the meantime, readers can now enjoy the video of Kevin Costner opening his Golden Globe award from the comfort of his bedroom.
