Like many celebrities and public figures, the cast of Yellowstone has spoken up on the Twitter blue checkmark scandal.
Since Elon Musk decided to charge people for their verifying blue checkmark, many celebrities, public figures and politicians have reacted. Not to be left out, a number of Yellowstone cast members are also speaking out after losing their verifying blue checkmark. Others simply ignore the new Twitter Blue and carry on without it.
After much debate, on April 20, 2023, Twitter removed its blue checkmarks, the symbol used to verify celebrities, businesses and other public figures. Now, anyone wanting to be “verified” must sign up for the new Twitter Blue subscription. This subscription allows people to reveal a blue check on their profile while paying an $8 or $84 per month subscription.
When the announcement was first made in March 2023, several greats were quick to respond to the news. Meanwhile, these include famous folks like author Stephen King, Star Trek icon William Shatner and Lebron James. Meanwhile, entertainment writers are also up in arms as they will not easily be able to see who is the verified holder of a Twitter account.
According to the New York Post, Twitter CEO Elon Musk did give legacy celebrities like King, Shatner and James “complimentary” subscriptions, so they wouldn’t have to pay. Meanwhile, legacy accounts like Hugo Chavez, Michael Jackson and Anthony Bourdain had their blue checkmarks restored.
Among the Yellowstone cast members that reacted, Josh Lucas, who plays flashback John Dutton stopped being active on Twitter some years ago over trolls. In fact, his Twitter bio reads, “I have decided to #quittwitter as it’s become a home for trolls a place to bully. There are so many better things to do! Peace out!” He certainly won’t be worried about having no verification.
Meanwhile, Gil Birmingham, who plays Thomas Rainwater on the modern Western show, assured his fans that he won’t be paying for the blue checkmark. In a recent tweet, he wrote: “Well, Twitter finally took away my official checkmark. I won’t be paying Musk to be verified. I know who I am. Just a reminder this is my one and only official Twitter account. I have no others. Don’t be fooled by imposters.”
Moreover, many Yellowstone cast members are staying on Twitter, but have not signed up for “Twitter Blue.” These include Kevin Costner, Jefferson White, Cole Hauser, Wendy Moniz, Lainey Wilson, Piper Perabo, Ryan Bingham and Hassie Harrison. You could say their blue checkmark is conspicuous by its absence. In fact, only one major cast member is paying to go blue, and that is Ian Bohen, who plays Ryan on the show.
