Taylor Sheridan reveals drama with Kevin Costner in Yellowstone season 2
Yellowstone boss, Taylor Sheridan, has opened up about the fact that Kevin Costner wasn’t happy with his character, John Dutton, during season 2. In fact, the Field of Dreams actor didn’t hold back with how he felt about his character’s story in the second season.
Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter that Costner was “very upset and said to me that the character was not going in the direction he wanted. However, Sheridan said he reminded the Hollywood actor that Yellowstone is “Essentially The Godfather in a ranch in Montana.” Taylor went on to ask Costner, “Are you surprised that the Godfather is killing people?”
Sheridan went on to explain that the Bodyguard actor was focused on John Dutton’s “commitments to family and way of life.” However, according to him, the whole point of the series is that the Dutton patriarch is unable to pivot to accommodate the modern world. In fact, Dutton is unwilling to find multiple income streams from his ranch.
Meanwhile, Sheridan said Costner felt season 2 was “deviating from that, and I don’t know that he was wrong,” adding, “In season 3, we steered back into it.”

While speaking of his past relationship with Costner, Taylor didn’t want to avoid any of the current rumors swirling about the show. In fact, he is quite happy to talk about the current feud rumors that have been in the headlines.
Since February this year, many news stories have said Costner had only a limited amount of time to film part 2 of season 5 of Yellowstone. In fact, according to the rumors, Costner’s availability was only a small part of the time needed to complete the season.
Many believe Sheridan himself is why the situation escalated. However, he made it clear that he doesn’t “dictate the schedule.” Taylor went on to explain that someone with a higher pay grade them him was the one to make the decisions. Moreover, he made it clear that there is no animosity between him and the John Dutton actor. He said they had no issues with schedules, or anything else when talking to each other. In fact, Sheridan said he thinks Kevin “Took a lot of this on the chin and I don’t know that [he] deserves it.”
