Will Yellowstone’s Next Prequel 1944 Star Harrison Ford & Helen Mirren?

The news recently broke that season 5 is the last season of the original Paramount Network series, Yellowstone. While obviously, that is bad news for fans, it was also reported that more spinoffs and prequels are in the mix. It hasn’t taken too long for news to come about another Yellowstone prequel, set in and titled 1944.

1944 is the next Yellowstone prequel

According to Ravalli Republic, a new prequel to Taylor Sheridan’s hit show is heading to Montana. Reportedly Paramount Network executives gathered at a community event in Hamilton, Montana on Sunday. The executives were touting the economic benefits derived from the hit modern Western series, Yellowstone. At the same time, they announced a new prequel to the Yellowstone universe titled 1944. Meanwhile, much of the new series is expected to be filmed in Bitterroot Valley.

Tom Prince, Executive Vice President of Production at 101 Studios, who partners with Paramount, described the new project as a follow-up to 1923. That prequel was filmed in Butte and stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton. Meanwhile, Prince said:

Of course, we’ve got 1923, we’ve got the sequel, we’re not letting the cat out of the bag, it’s going to be called ‘1944.’ My guess is that it’ll be shooting largely in the Bitterroot Valley, because it has to take place at what is Chief Joseph Ranch.

Of course, fans will recall that Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby doubles as the iconic Dutton family ranch in the hit modern Western starring Kevin Costner.

Enormous hit on Paramount

Speaking of Yellowstone, Prince added that it is an “enormous hit,” and not just in the US. Readers probably recall that the series is now available in the UK and equally popular there. Prince added:

I was just in Europe two weeks ago. They talked about it in London, I’m like ‘how the hell do you know about Yellowstone in London?’ It’s a big, big show. And it’s the highest quality of television being made right now.

Who will star in the prequel 1944?

It would be nice to believe that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren would return as Jacob and Cara Dutton in the prequel 1944. However, considering the characters’ ages, this seems unlikely. However, younger cast members, such as Jacob’s nephew, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) could likely feature. Watch this space for more information on the Yellowstone prequel, 1944, as it arrives.
