One fan wants to know if TLC will stop promoting cultish families. The cable network has promoted many large families, including the Browns, the Busbys, the Roloffs, the Bates, the Plaths, and the Derricos, just to name a few.
Fans feel that most of these families are cultish and TLC needs to stop promoting them. They argue that it’s dangerous propaganda.
A Redditor wrote, “TLC needs to stop promoting cults.” They argued that TLC should stop giving these families a platform to promote their cults. That same user believes that their faith practices are dangerous. Other fans took to the thread to share their thoughts.
“TLC has the most bizarre reality shows ever,” one fan noted. Another wrote, “I like when TLC was the learning channel.”
One argued, “You have to remember TLC and Discovery are simply money-making machines in the world of TV. They’ll air whatever sells. It’s simply supply and demand. Viewers create demand, TV channel offers supply. Basic transaction.”
Most fans feel bad for the children who are roped into these television shows. They argued that no one under the age of 18 should be exposed in front of the camera.
Shiny Happy People revealed that the Duggar kids didn’t receive any earnings for their time on the show. It’s a different situation from the Brown family, who put everyone’s earnings into the same family pot. But is still dangerous to feature a plural family?
Some fans wonder if it’ll continue. One noted that every time they watch TLC, they see an advertisement for another family. However, there are some who argued that if people don’t like it, they can choose not to watch. Another said that TLC should fully lean into it and explore Scientology next.
However, the user noted they should only focus on religious cults at this point. Other fans suggested that TLC should expose some of the most dangerous cults rather than focus on a supposed happy family.
Portraying the Duggars as wholesome and innocent was dangerous. Some fans feel good that the Duggars and Browns have been exposed and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
