The original Harry Potter movies were loved by fans of J.K. Rowling’s novels and, of course, Daniel Radcliffe played the lead role. However, the actor, who played the titular wizard in the Warner Brothers’ film series from 2011 to 2011, has been asked if he will reprise his role in the new HBO Max planned Harry Potter TV series. Read on to find out what the actor had to say about the new series based on Rowling’s novels.
TV Adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels
A few months ago, HBO Max announced its 10-year commitment to TV adaptations of the Harry Potter novels penned by J.K. Rowling. It turns out Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the lead wizard role in the Warner Brothers film series, is offering his blessing to whichever young actor gets to play the coveted role.
Besides offering his blessing to the actor who gets to take up his role, Radcliffe also spoke about whether fans should expect to see him in a cameo in the new series. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Radcliffe explained:
My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.
So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.
Backlash on the wizardly reboot
When news broke about the Harry Potter TV reboot, the show received major public backlash for Rowling being named as an executive producer. In fact, the author’s statements on sex and gender have led to her being slammed as transphobic.
Responding to the backlash, Rowling set out a tweet to fans in April, reading:
Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share. Activists in my mentions are trying to organise yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I’ve taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne.

Responses from Rowling’s fans on Twitter was mostly positive, with one writing, “You are our heroine in this conflict. JK’s Army perhaps? We will always be your online Defenders.”
Rowling was quick to respond to the Twitter user, writing, “And I love you all for it more than I can say xxx.”
Another Rowling fan commented, writing, “You’ve got a lot of love and support too. ❤”
