When Melody Thomas Scott debuted on The Young and the Restless back in the early 1980’s, she wasn’t alone.  Her biological sister Casey Reed was also a permanent fixture in Genoa City.

Casey and Nikki may have shared the same DNA, but the young women were very different and chose completely different paths in their lives on The Young and the Restless.

Like Nikki, Casey had some eventful romances, but rather than marrying in to money, she studied hard and became a successful doctor.

However, it was revealed a lot off Nikki and Casey’s issues stemmed from the fact that they were both molested by their father in their younger years.

Casey and Nikki were actually involved in a controversial storyline in the 1980’s, when Casey realized she and her sister had been assaulted by their father Nick Reed, she had apparently shut the incident out of her memory.

Casey remembered in the knick of time and raced to help her sister Nikki, who was in the process of being raped by their father.  Casey helped rescue Nikki, and their father was killing in the process.

Roberta Leighton played the part of Cassandra Reed from 1981-1989.  The character returned for a brief storyline in 1998, but she didn’t stick around.  That was the last time Y&R fans saw Nikki Newman’s sister.

So, it’s probably not a coincidence the writers opted to bring her name up now, and there’s a good chance whoever took Nikki hostage with Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) is somehow linked to Casey and Nikki and their past.
