The actress who plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy recently suffered a heartbreaking loss in a house fire.
Caterina Scorsone, who plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, has revealed a family tragedy in an Instagram post. It turns out that a couple of months ago, her home burned down, but luckily she and her family got out in time. However, tragically, the family lost their four, much-loved pets.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Caterina Scorsone shared a heartbreaking image of her burned-out home. She also shared images of her kids and the family dog and cats that sadly they lost.
Scorsone wrote, “While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub.”
She added that when she looked down the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house. Caterina added, “One thing about fires: they happen fast, I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we escaped with less than shoes on our feet.”
“But we got out. And for that I am eternally grateful,” the Grey’s Anatomy star added, writing, “Heartbreakingly, we lost all four of our pets. We are still sitting with that loss, but we are lucky we got to love them at all.”
‘Love letter’ to ‘community’
However, Caterina added that she wasn’t just posting about the fire itself, but rather about the “community.” She wrote:
This is a love letter to the incredible people that showed up and the incredible ways that they did.
Scorsone thanked the firefighters and investigators that attended the fire. She also thanked her neighbor and the parents at her children’s school who sent toys and books. Caterina also thanked her friends at Grey’s Anatomy and Shondaland who helped with supplies and clothing, as well as her sisters who came to help her.
She wrote that what they learned is that the only thing that matters are the “people (and beings) that you love. Scorsone explained that the only thing that matters is community, as they wouldn’t be there without it, adding that they are so grateful.
