The synopsis of the series is timely, with climate change pushing for alternatives to oil, but not everyone is for “renewable energy.” According to Variety, Land Man “is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas.” It tells the modern-day story of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the podcast Boomtown, the series is an “upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, while Michelle Randolph plays Ainsley Norris, Tommy’s wild and strong-willed 17-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, Jacob Lofland plays Cooper Norris, Tommy’s son, who is “new to the demanding work in the oil and gas fields of west Texas. Moreover, Ali Larter plays the role of Tommy’s former wife, Angela.
About the cast
Randolph previously starred in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923, so she is not new to Taylor Sheridan’s work. Michelle has also starred in movies like 5 Years Apart and The Resort. Meanwhile, Lofland experienced his debut in the 2012 film Mud, opposite Matthew McConaughey and Tye Sheridan. Since then, Jacob has starred in the Maze Runner movie franchise and TV shows including Justified, The Son and Texas Rising. Meanwhile, he will also star in the sequel Joker: Folie à Deux.
Larter’s career in television includes a role in the NBC drama Heroes for the show’s four-season run. Moreover, Ali has also starred in Legally Blonde, Varsity Blues, House on Haunted Hill and Drive Me Crazy. But that’s not all, as she has also appeared in The Rookie, and the movies The Hater and The Last Victim.
