Find out what Kody revealed about how many children he really wanted. And keep reading to discover how Meri reacted.
While Kody Brown often talks about his wives, his reflections on life as a father tend to offer less introspection. But spoilers for a new TLC special via Us reveal the Sister Wives patriarch spilling on his views about fatherhood.
And together with Meri Brown, Kody talks about the now former couple’s fertility challenges and her pregnancy special as they review past episodes. But then Kody drops a bombshell. And the 54-year-old confesses, “Retrospectively, I’m really glad we didn’t have more children.”
However, the “Sister Wives Special: Look Back, Where We Started” also reveals Kody taking an unprecedented thoughtful and considerate look at how a child might have fared in his marriage at that time. And the Sister Wives patriarch stunned with his honest confession. “It wouldn’t have been good for the child,” he said. “Because Meri and I weren’t healthy then.”
Spoilers reveal Kody and Meri, 52, viewing throwback episodes from 2012. And the Sister Wives stars watched their initially optimistic views on invitro fertilization (IVF) to expand their family. But after welcoming their only child, Leon, in July 1995, Meri confessed, “It just freaks me out to go through that again.”
But at the time, the Sister Wives patriarch pushed Meri. And he pleaded with her to expand their parenthood experiences. “When we’re dying when we’re 110, we’ll look back and we’ll be glad we did the IVF,” claimed Kody. However, a clip from the following year then revealed Kody completely changed his mind.
And Meri questions in the clip if Kody wants another baby with her. But just months after pleading with her to welcome more children into the world, the Sister Wives patriarch backs off. And Kody admits, “Because of the stakes, I’m not burning in my gut to do it.”
But after a miscarriage and repeated attempts, Kody realized that “our marriage is not really healthy.” And Meri agreed that their relationship suffered ups and downs for years. However, she “really wanted to have more than just one” baby.
But the Sister Wives star shared that she sometimes thinks of her miscarriage. And although she didn’t know the gender, Meri thought of her unborn child as a boy.
“He’d be 15 now, and I often wonder what life would be like with him here,” she shared. “There’s often a lot of sorrow and pain surrounding that loss.” Part 2 of the “Sister Wives Special: Look Back, Where We Started” airs on TLC Sunday, December 31, at 10 p.m. ET.
