It has been a while since fans watched Severance season 1, it is known that the series has been renewed for a second season.
However, while we know that the show is coming back, season 2 has been delayed by the WRA Writers’ and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
What is currently happening with the second season of Severance? Read on to find out what we know so far.
The first season of Severance was mind-blowing and fans are waiting impatiently for season 2.
However, sadly, the production of the second season has been impacted by the WRA Writers’ and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In fact, it ceased production in May 2023.
When the psychological sci-fi thriller was released in 2022, it became a major hit. Meanwhile, it earned 14 Emmy nominations and received an early renewal for season 2.
For those who have yet to watch, Severance tells the story of employees at Lumon Industries, whose home-life memories are “severed” from their work memories.
As for season 2, this is set to carry on from the insane cliffhanger in the finale of season 1.
Season 2 was expected to return in 2024, but due to the strikes, this could change and Apple has made no comment on when it will premiere.
When the streamer renewed the series on April 6, 2023, director and executive producer Ben Stiller told Variety:
It’s really exciting to see the response from people who are loving the show – and the level of fan engagement. It has been a long road bringing ‘Severance’ to television. I first read Dan’s pilot over five years ago. It has always been a multi-season story and I’m really happy we get to continue it. I’m grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ who have been behind it the whole way. Praise Kier!
Filming of the second season of Severance started on October 31, 2022. At the time, Apple shared a photo of the lead star Adam Scott, who retweeted the message, writing, “Can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re doing in S2…”
However, filming ceased when the WGA Writers’ Strike started in May 2023. To make matters worse, two months later the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike started impacting TV and movie production. However, once the strikes are over, production is set to resume.
The main cast returns for season 2 including Adam Scott returns as Mark Scout, Britt Lower as Helly Riggs, John Turturro as Irving Bailiff and Zach Cherry as Dylan George. Moreover, Patricia Arquette returns as Harmony Cobel, Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman, Trammell Tillman as Seth Milchick, Jen Tullock as Devon Scout-Hale and Michael Chernus as Ricken Hale.
Meanwhile, as noted by TV Guide, Apple announced new cast members in season 2 in October 2022.
This includes Merritt Wever, Gwendoline Christie, Bob Balaban, Alia Shawkat, Robby Benson, John Noble, Stefano Carannante and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
