This is the news that Yellowstone fans don’t want to hear, as sources confirm that the Taylor Sheridan show is set to end after the balance of season 5 is released. Fans have heard that Costner is too valuable to leave the modern Western, but now we hear the worst possible news. Is it true that Yellowstone will end after season 5? Read on to find out.
According to multiple sources, season 5 of Yellowstone is to be its last on the Paramount Network. Even worse, it isn’t sure whether part 2 of the fifth season will be filmed. Fans had been told that the second part would launch in the summer of 2023, but it hasn’t even started filming yet and even its stars don’t know the ongoing story.
News has been doing the rounds that Kevin Costner, the Golden Globe-winning lead actor who plays John Dutton, is leaving the show after a dispute with its creator, Taylor Sheridan. In fact, a “well-placed production source” has told the New York Post:
It’s the same as with any showrunner and big star — there’s respect, but there’s friction.
Meanwhile, a Hollywood source, who has worked with Sheridan, did confirm there is an “element of ego at play,” but it isn’t necessarily Kevin’s ego. They said: “Taylor is the star of his show. He’s the most important person on all of his shows.”
According to the Post, around 12.1 million Yellowstone fans watched the premiere of season 5 in November 2022. Now, fans are getting impatient, waiting for the second part to drop.
According to sources, Kevin Costner is likely to return in his role of John Dutton in part 2 of season 5 of Yellowstone. However, they say this will be the last of the show. However, filming hasn’t even been slated yet, plus a Hollywood writers’ strike is coming.
However, the Post’s production source did say they are hoping things will be worked out as it is “too big a show for things not to be worked out.” They added:
Hopefully, Kevin will return for the remaining episodes if everyone works together, but it looks like Yellowstone will end after this season.
Meanwhile, another source who knows Taylor Sheridan, said the creator may be keeping his stars in the dark. In fact, “Only Taylor truly knows what is going on.”
In the meantime, there will be spinoffs, including an as-yet-unnamed prequel starring Hollywood actor, Matthew McConaughey. Meanwhile, 1923, which famously stars Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren will have a second season.
