British Royal Family News says that at this point everyone can agree that the monarchy is nothing more than one big popularity game. As a matter of fact, Prince Harry claims in his new book that his father King Charles was worried that Meghan Markle would overshadow him in public. Here’s what you need to know.

In his book Spare, Harry says that following one of his engagements with Meghan, Charles had raised the subject of her livelihood and asked if hse planned to continue working. He also said that the monarchy wouldn’t have enough money to support both Harry and Meghan together. Apparently, Harry says one of the reasons why Charles had asked this as because he was worried that the “novel and resplendent” Meghan would steal his spotlight. He also said that he was paying enough to support Prince William and Kate Middleton, which Harry didn’t seem to believe.

“Pa didn’t financially support Willy and me, and our families, out of any largesse,” Harry, 38, alleges in the memoir. “That was his job. That was the whole deal.”

Harry also said that William supposedly “agreed to serve the monarch” and keep inside “the gilded cage at all times” in order to be taken care of.

If all that weren’t enough, Harry says that when he told William that their late mother Princess Diana helped him “find” Meghan Markle, the Prince of Wales was not buying what his little brother was selling.

Yet, while most of the world first learned about Meghan Markle the moment that she began dating Harry, William and Kate Middleton knew all about her long before anyone else. That’s because they were huge fans of the USA legal drama, Suits. Apparently, Wills and Kate were floored when he told them that he was dating Meghan, who the royal couple knew because of Suits. “Their mouths fell open,” Harry writes. “They turned to each other. Then Willy turned to me and said, ‘F–k off?’”
