With all the things Harry has been saying about his brother Prince William these days, it’s becoming harder to remember that there was a time when the brothers had each other’s backs. At the moment, no one knows the last time these brothers talked to each other, or whether the rift will even heal, but we’re okay just throwing back to the good old days.
Young Prince Harry Tells Brother Prince William To “Sign Back” In Sweet Message
Imagine having dinner at Sandringham Castle on September 25, 1993, and passing messages with your sibling. You don’t have to imagine it, William and Harry has lived it.
“William, what are you talking about? Sign back,” 9-year-old Harry wrote to William at the back of their menu. King Charles and Princess Diana were said to be in attendance.
It appears the two young boys were passing “secret” messages to each other while they dined. The letter comes from the collection of a royal chef and features the Queen’s ER cypher in gold. The menu, on which the letter was written, is titled cold buffet in French.
Like Harry himself has confessed on certain occasions, he and William were very close growing up, though their different interests seem to have driven them apart in recent days.
Sources Close To William Claimed That Harry’s Memoir “Spare” Was The Last Straw.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said of the sweet note: “This is very sweet and shows that the princes were having fun at a rather stuffy evening meal. But I look at it with a tinge of sadness as it shows that they were close and were allies, in a real contrast to their current relationship.”
Paul Fraser Collectibles, where it is being auctioned, describes the item as a “unique Prince Harry signed menu.”
Boss Paul Fraser said: “It’s great to see William and Harry were on good terms that day. And royal signatures are so rare — as it’s against royal protocol to sign autographs.”
The menu lists filet of beef, foie gras, beef tongue, York ham and smoked turkey, alongside salmon mousse, Parma ham and melon, salads, quails’ eggs and aubergine cake for dessert. So yum!
Auction House Calls Prince Harry’s Signed Letter A Piece of History
Writing on their website, the auction house said of the item, “This item gives a stunning insight into the life of the Royal Family in 1993 and is the only known example of Harry’s handwriting to come up for sale.”
A memorabilia expert added: “This is absolutely genuine and a very interesting historical item that illustrates how close William and Harry were growing up.”
