Cabot Cove, Maine, is not done telling its stories. Yes, you heard me. “Murder, She Wrote” movie is returning, with reports saying it’s in development at Universal Pictures.

“Dumb Money” writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo were attached to write the screenplay, but the writers strike threw a wrench in the works. Here’s what we know so far.

The original series ran on CBS for 12 solid seasons, with late Angela Lansbury playing the lead as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher.

She is also the only regular in the series, as recurring characters are recycled at the end of a season or two.

The Crime Drama Series Averaged 25 Million Viewers At One Point.

At one point, the crime drama series, which aired from 1984 to 1996, averaged 25 million viewers at one point. Between 1997 and 2003, four television films were released.

However, it would take 20 years after the last TV film and 27 years since the series came to an end for something new to come from “Murder, She Wrote.”

For every season she played Jessica Fletcher, Lansbury received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

To excite the hunger for more in fans, the original “Murder, She Wrote” series is currently streaming for free on Amazon Freevee and, of course, Prime Video.
