Major casting news is out for the Quantum Leap reboot on NBC. In fact, former Superman and Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will join the series in an upcoming episode. The rebooted show is set after the events of the original series, which ran from 1989 to 1993. Read on to find out more about the addition of the new cast member.
Brandon Routh is a former Superman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star that is set to join the NBC reboot of Quantum Leap. The actor played Superman in the 2006 movie, Superman Returns. Moreover, he reprised the role in the CW Arrowverse franchise, where he also played The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow.
Meanwhile, NBC’s reboot of Quantum Leap is set after the events of the original series, which ran from 1989 to 1993. In the reboot, Ben Song (Raymond Lee) is one of the physicists behind the revitalized Project Quantum Leap, where he embarks on mysterious adventures across history, like his predecessor, Sam Beckett.
IGN has revealed that Routh has been cast as Alexander Augustine, father of Addison Augustine (Caitlin Bassett). He is set to star in an upcoming season 1 episode to air on February 27.
In that episode, titled S.O.S., Ben leaps into a naval war game held in 1989. This leads to the physicist encountering Addison’s father, who is serving on the ship.
In a statement, Routh praised his Quantum Leap co-stars Lee and Bassett, saying it is an honor to join the series. He said:
Growing up watching Quantum Leap, it was an honor to portray such a pivotal character in Addison’s life. Ray and Caitlin are a fantastic duo and I loved being a part of the QL team. As an Iowan, it was also exciting to film on the USS Iowa.
The appearance of Routh’s character in season 1 comes as the reboot slowly unravels the mystery behind what drove Ben to journey into the past. Fans will recall that, after making his first leap, Ben suffered amnesia, leading him to forget why he began his quest. However, with the help of his friends at Project Quantum Leap, Ben aims to reach a specific point in the future in order to save his fiancé Addison. However, in episode 13, it was revealed that Ian (Mason Alexander Park) is also a Leaper, causing uncertainty among the team.
While trust is being tested within the project, the revelation of Routh’s Alexander Augustine comes at a difficult time. As viewers know, Addison has been Ben’s advisor throughout season 1 of Quantum Leap and has guided him on his journey. However, she previously established that she came from a broken home. This could potentially be troubling after the risk of Ben’s leaping was revealed.
Readers can watch the episode of Quantum Leap, S.O.S., on February 27, 2023, on NBC.
