Prince Harry Loses Bid to Pay For Own Police Protection While In UK

Royal family news and updates revealed that Prince Harry lost his bid to pay for his own police protection when he’s in the UK. The High Court in London gave out the said decision following its initial hearing last week.

The Duke of Sussex previously alleged that his taxpayer-funded police protection was withdrawn by the UK Home Office when he and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to step back from royal duties. They left their working royal roles back in January 2020 and they moved to California with their son Price Archie.

Judge Mr. Justice Chamberlain said at The Royal Courts of Justice in London that he’s not barring Prince Harry from seeking a judicial review about the rejection of his offer to pay for his own police protection while in the country.

The legal case was launched back in 2021 and it wasn’t made public until January 2022, when the story leaked in a UK tabloid.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed while in the UK,” as per the statement released by Meghan and Harry’s spokesperson.

“In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home,” he added.

“The goal for Prince Harry has been simple – to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country,” as per the statement.

The spokesperson also brought up the incident when Prince Harry’s security was “compromised due to the absence of police protection.”

The court is yet to address the second aspect of Harry’s legal case against the UK Home Office. It focuses on a hearing that took place in July 2022, where Harry successfully secured the right to contest the “procedural unfairness” associated with the U.K. government’s decision to revoke his publicly-funded protection.

Prince Harry Sues UK Tabloid Publisher

Aside from that, Prince Harry is also involved in another legal battle against a UK tabloid publisher, Mirror Newspaper Group. In his suit, Prince Harry alleged that MNG for phone hacking. He also launched other legal battles against British tabloids for breach of privacy and publishing false stories.

MNG denies most of the allegations and said that most of the claims were brought too late while others don’t have enough evidence that points to phone hacking.
