New Netflix Series The Boroughs Coming Soon

Coming from the creators of Stranger Things, The Boroughs is a sci-fi series that tells the story of older folk, facing an otherworldly threat.

The Duffer Brothers will likely have yet another hit on their hands as Netflix greenlit a new Sci-Fi series, The Boroughs. While their other hit, Stranger Things, featured young heroes, The Boroughs will feature older people in a retirement home, facing an otherworldly threat. Meanwhile, the brothers say we will love the characters, who will be a “similarly lovable bunch of misfits” but with a few years behind them.

About Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series, The Boroughs

The new Netflix series, The Boroughs, will be created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance fame. Moreover, Addiss is also a writer on the highly anticipated new The Lord of The Rings: War of the Rohirrim animated movie. Moreover, Addiss and Matthews will also serve as showrunners of the new series.

The Duffer brothers made a statement about The Boroughs, saying:

We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands. While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.

Meanwhile, the Duffer Brothers will executive produce the series along with Hilary Leavitt through their Netflix-based production banner, Upside Down Pictures.

Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews on being back at Netflix

Meanwhile, Deadline quotes Addiss and Matthews in a statement about the new sci-fi series, saying:

We’re thrilled to be back at Netflix. Working alongside the Duffer Brothers (who are pretty good at making shows) and their team has been a dream come true. They bring the perfect balance of heart and horror to our story. We can’t wait for audiences around the world to unlock the dark mystery buried beneath the sunny facade of The Boroughs.

What is the Netflix series The Boroughs about?

While few details are currently available about The Boroughs, Netflix did offer a short logline for the sci-fi series as follows:

In a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time.

So far, no cast members have been announced for the new series, but we do know that season 1 will consist of eight, one-hour episodes.

Meanwhile, there is no news of the release date on Netflix as the series is currently in early development, with scripts being written. It is anticipated that the series will stream possibly in late 2024, or 2025.
