While the premiere date hasn’t been announced by Netflix, Yellowstone fans will likely enjoy the new, upcoming docu-drama, Cowboy Wars. While Yellowstone and its prequels are fiction, Cowboy Wars will tell the true story behind Gunfight at the O.K. Corral with Virgil Earp.
Cowboy Wars will be directed by BAFTA-winning director Patrick Reams, who has worked on many projects with National Geographic, Discovery, and more. Among his credits are Marilyn Monroe: Auction of a Lifetime, Gold Fever, The Men Who Built America, The Titans That Built America, Gold Fever and Rebel Pope.

Reportedly, production on the docu-drama series too, place between mid-October and November 2022. Meanwhile, the project is produced by Stephen David Entertainment, previously behind Roman Empire: Reign of Blood on Netflix. Moreover, Stephen David is an executive producer, while Alex Jordan is a producer.

Regarded as the most famous shootout in the history of the American Old West. The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was a shootout that occurred on October 26, 1881, in Tombstone, Arizona. Meanwhile, it was between lawmen, led by Wyatt, Morgan, and Virgil Earp and a group of outlaws known as the Cowboys.
The day of the gunfight saw the Earp brothers and their friend, Doc Holliday, facing off against the Cowboys near the O.K. Corral. While the gunfight lasted only 30 seconds, after the dust settled, three Cowboys were dead. Meanwhile, Virgil and Morgan Earp were wounded, but generally, the lawmen were relatively unscathed by the gunfire.
This isn’t the first time the story has been adapted, as in 1957, a movie was released titled Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, starring Kirk Douglas. Meanwhile, a more recent movie was Kurt Russell’s 1993 movie, Tombstone.
Moreover, it isn’t the first docu-drama in the Netflix library, which has already seen The Last of the Czars, Roman Empire and Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan. Meanwhile, a docu-drama series on Alexander The Great is set to be released by the streaming channel.
