EastEnders spoilers and updates tease that Neil McDermott is returning to the soap. The actor will reprise his role as Ryan Malloy for a guest stint for the month of February.
Ryan was last seen in Albert Square in November 2016. He’s living in Wakefield with his wife, prison officer Helen. His return is driven by the shocking news that his 12-year-old daughter, Lily Slater (Lillian Turner), is pregnant with Ricky Jr.’s (Frankie Day) baby.
“When I heard what the story was I was really pleased that the stars aligned and I was able to revisit Ryan and set foot back on the Square,” McDermott said.
“It was so lovely to see so many old friends and to work with Shona [McGarty] and Lacey [Turner] again, as well as to meet and work with Ryan’s daughter, played beautifully by Lillia [Turner],” he added.
EastEnders Spoilers – Boss Opens About Ryan Malloy’s Return
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw talked about the return of McDermott to the soap. He welcomed the return of the actor to the role of Ryan Malloy.
“Although we haven’t seen Ryan for some years, his character is still intertwined in the history of two of the show’s major characters, Stacey and Whitney. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him back for a short while as he’s thrust into the heart of the drama,” Clenshaw explained.
For those who didn’t know, McDermott made his first appearance on the show as Ryan back in 2009. He married Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), but they ended up getting a divorce after having an affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). He was also sent to prison after accidentally killing Rob Grayson while protecting his half-sister, Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).
The actor left the soap in 2011. But he made guest appearances in 2014 and 2016. What will he do now that he learned about Lily’s pregnancy?

Later on, Jack tries to tell Lily what her life will be like as a teen mum. Stacey hears about it and decides to ban all the Brannings for having anything to do with Lily’s baby. How will Ricky Jr. react?
