Modern Family Alum Julie Bowen Takes Different Role In Peacock’s ‘Hysteria!’

Hysteria!’ is a new, upcoming, coming-of-age thriller series coming to Peacock, starring Modern Family’s Julie Bowen.

It has been a while since Modern Family fans saw the final episode of the much-loved comedy series. However, they will get to see Julie Bowen, who played Claire Dunphy in the ABC show, in a new, coming-of-age thriller series, Hysteria! on Peacock. Read on to find out more about the upcoming thriller series set in the late 1980s.

According to Variety, the plot tells the story of a beloved varsity quarterback who disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s. Moreover, a high school heavy metal band, struggling for gigs and fame, realizes they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult. In fact, the outcasts decide to build a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of kidnappings, murders and “supernatural activity” triggers a witch hunt that leads directly back to them.

Bowen is set to play Linda Campbell in the thriller series, the mother of one of the teenage outcasts. She experiences a series of supernatural disturbances, forcing her to question all she knows about her son. Naturally, it also leads her to question the growing threat of Satanism in her small, Midwestern town.

While Julie Bowen is best known for her role as Claire Dunphy in ABC’s Modern Family, she has played other notable roles. Her other credits include The Fallout, Happy Gilmore, Life of the Party, Hubie Halloween and Horrible Bosses.

Other, earlier TV roles include the series Boston Legal where she starred along with James Spader, and the series Ed. Meanwhile, she also got to direct two episodes of Modern Family while the beloved series was still running.

On the new, coming-of-age thriller, Hysteria! Matthew Scott Kane serves as a writer and executive producer. Other executive producers include Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jake Weiner and Chris Bender. Moreover, the first episode will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island, The Kings of Summer).

So far, it is unknown when the new thriller series Hysteria! will premiere on Peacock.
