Yellowstone has been in the headlines a lot lately, mainly about rumors Kevin Costner is leaving the hit modern Western series. While Matthew McConaughey, 53, took a four-year break from acting, he is looking forward to getting back on the set again. He has spent his time focusing on public service and on writing his book, Greenlights. However, he is now ready for a more structured schedule.
McConaughey told Dax, “To go have some structure like, ‘I got a call time, I’ve got lines, I’ve got scenes, I’ve got a character,” adding, “That sounds like a vacation right now to me.”
The Interstellar actor admitted that he has had a “really wonderful time” over the last few years, while “getting rid of a lot of those filters that come with acting.”
What is the Paramount spinoff about?
The Wolf of Wall Street actor didn’t give any information about his role in the Yellowstone spinoff or its possible title. However, he did admit he is anxious about seeing how much his strength as an actor has grown while working off-screen. In fact, the last time fans saw Matthew was in the 2019 movie, The Gentleman. Previous to that, he was seen in the controversial movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower as the Man in Black.
After his break, he is becoming more interested in “actually going to play another character in a movie or a TV show.” This is especially so after four years of writing and getting things together and doing more public service. McConaughey added:
The idea of going to act in the right role or the right movie, film or series right now, I’ll be a different or improved actor in my own right after these last three years.
The latest news about McConaughey joining the Yellowstone franchise comes at a time when rumors are swirling that Kevin Costner could leave the hit show over scheduling conflicts. While there is still no clue about when part 2 of season 5 will finally air, Paramount boss Keith Cox recently shut down rumors that the Dances With Wolves actor was leaving. Cox told fans that the network is “confident” Costner will continue with the show. Meanwhile, the thought of Matthew McConaughey joining the Yellowstone franchise is certainly exciting for fans.
Readers can listen to the full interview on Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard here. McConaughey also talks about regenerating his hair, alcohol tolerances, problems with his family and the type of person he feels jealousy over.
